What does Kafalat NOT do?
What does Kafalat NOT do?
- Kafalat does NOT grant loans, it guarantees loans that are given by banks
operating in Lebanon. (Kafalat does not interfere in the decision-making
procedure for the loan approval at the bank).
- Loans to be guaranteed by Kafalat generally CANNOT be used for the
repayment of existing debts.
- The funds generally CANNOT be used for paying for business expenses
incurred prior to the approval of the guarantee.
What services does Kafalat provide?
Kafalat provides loan guarantees to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Lebanon.

Partnerships
The European Union, in partnership with Kafalat SAL, has signed, since July 2004, a series of financing agreements with Lebanese Ministries, to create financing mechanisms for Small and Medium-sized enterprises and to support the innovation and competitiveness of enterprises.
The European Union has identified four priority projects which are at the heart of the of Partnership’s efforts, including projects for:

Kafalat (SAL) is owned by the National Institute for the Guarantee of Deposits (75%) and fifty Lebanese banks (25%)
